Kirti-Girish (Bamboo Beats) on their band’s maiden navratri performance in ahmedabad. your band has been performing in mumbai for the past 20 years. what prompted you to come to ahmedabad? true, we have been performing in mumbai for the past 22 years. however, the new deadline of 11.30 pm in mumbai has made life difficult for all the organisers. the authorities are very strict there. so, we started by 10 pm and even before people got into the groove, we had to stop. we did not get any creative satisfaction out of the performance. on the other side, avishkar group has been inviting us since long. so we thought of building a strong territory in this belt. how different are the garba-goers here as compared to mumbai? well, frankly speaking we came here with a lot of expectations. but here, so far, the spectators have outnumbered the dancers. actually we expected it to be the other way around. in fact, we found people more enthusiastic in hong kong than in ahmedabad. but we are told that it takes some time before amdavadis actually jump into the fray. we are waiting and watching. are you planning to come back next year? well, can’t say right now. tell us something about your albums. we have worked on more than 150 garba cassettes, most of them with venus. out of these, around 30 are exclusively on dandiya raas.
